Chapter 1

דברי נחמיה בן־חכליה ויהי בחדש־כסליו כסלו שנת עשרים ואני הייתי בשושן הבירה׃	א	1	The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the castle,
ויבא חנני אחד מאחי הוא ואנשים מיהודה ואשאלם על־היהודים הפליטה אשר־נשארו מן־השבי ועל־ירושלם׃	ב	2	that Hanani, one of my brethren, came out of Judah, he and certain men; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Yerushalam.
ויאמרו לי הנשארים אשר־נשארו מן־השבי שם במדינה ברעה גדלה ובחרפה וחומת ירושלם מפרצת ושעריה נצתו באש׃	ג	3	And they said unto me: 'The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach; the wall of Yerushalam also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.'
ויהי כשמעי ׀ את־הדברים האלה ישבתי ואבכה ואתאבלה ימים ואהי צם ומתפלל לפני אלהי השמים׃	ד	4	And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,
ואמר אנא יהוה אלהי השמים האל הגדול והנורא שמר הברית וחסד לאהביו ולשמרי מצותיו׃	ה	5	and said: 'I beseech Thee, Yehovah, the God of heaven, the great and awful God, that keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments;
תהי נא אזנך־קשבת ועיניך פתוחות לשמע אל־תפלת עבדך אשר אנכי מתפלל לפניך היום יומם ולילה על־בני ישראל עבדיך ומתודה על־חטאות בני־ישראל אשר חטאנו לך ואני ובית־אבי חטאנו׃	ו	6	let Thine ear now be attentive, and Thine eyes open, that Thou mayest hearken unto the prayer of Thy servant, which I pray before Thee at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel Thy servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against Thee; yea, I and my father's house have sinned.
חבל חבלנו לך ולא־שמרנו את־המצות ואת־החקים ואת־המשפטים אשר צוית את־משה עבדך׃	ז	7	We have dealt very corruptly against Thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances which Thou didst command Thy servant Moses.
זכר־נא את־הדבר אשר צוית את־משה עבדך לאמר אתם תמעלו אני אפיץ אתכם בעמים׃	ח	8	Remember, I beseech Thee, the word that Thou didst command Thy servant Moses, saying: If ye deal treacherously, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples;
ושבתם אלי ושמרתם מצותי ועשיתם אתם אם־יהיה נדחכם בקצה השמים משם אקבצם והביאותים והבואתים אל־המקום אשר בחרתי לשכן את־שמי שם׃	ט	9	but if ye return unto Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though your dispersed were in the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to cause My name to dwell there.
והם עבדיך ועמך אשר פדית בכחך הגדול ובידך החזקה׃	י	10	Now these are Thy servants and Thy people, whom Thou hast redeemed by Thy great power, and by Thy strong hand.
אנא אדני תהי נא אזנך־קשבת אל־תפלת עבדך ואל־תפלת עבדיך החפצים ליראה את־שמך והצליחה־נא לעבדך היום ותנהו לרחמים לפני האיש הזה ואני הייתי משקה למלך׃ פ	יא	11	O Lord, I beseech Thee, let now Thine ear be attentive to the prayer of Thy servant, and to the prayer of Thy servants, who delight to fear Thy name; and prosper, I pray Thee, Thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.' Now I was cupbearer to the king. {P}

Chapter 2

ויהי ׀ בחדש ניסן שנת עשרים לארתחשסתא המלך יין לפניו ואשא את־היין ואתנה למלך ולא־הייתי רע לפניו׃	א	1	And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
ויאמר לי המלך מדוע ׀ פניך רעים ואתה אינך חולה אין זה כי־אם רע לב ואירא הרבה מאד׃	ב	2	And the king said unto me: 'Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart.' Then I was very sore afraid.
ואמר למלך המלך לעולם יחיה מדוע לא־ירעו פני אשר העיר בית־קברות אבתי חרבה ושעריה אכלו באש׃ ס	ג	3	And I said unto the king: 'Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?' {S}
ויאמר לי המלך על־מה־זה אתה מבקש ואתפלל אל־אלהי השמים׃	ד	4	Then the king said unto me: 'For what dost thou make request?' So I prayed to the God of heaven.
ואמר למלך אם־על־המלך טוב ואם־ייטב עבדך לפניך אשר תשלחני אל־יהודה אל־עיר קברות אבתי ואבננה׃	ה	5	And I said unto the king: 'If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.'
ויאמר לי המלך והשגל ׀ יושבת אצלו עד־מתי יהיה מהלכך ומתי תשוב וייטב לפני־המלך וישלחני ואתנה לו זמן׃	ו	6	And the king said unto me, the queen also sitting by him: 'For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return?' So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
ואומר למלך אם־על־המלך טוב אגרות יתנו־לי על־פחוות עבר הנהר אשר יעבירוני עד אשר־אבוא אל־יהודה׃	ז	7	Moreover I said unto the king: 'If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through till I come unto Judah;
ואגרת אל־אסף שמר הפרדס אשר למלך אשר יתן־לי עצים לקרות את־שערי הבירה אשר־לבית ולחומת העיר ולבית אשר־אבוא אליו ויתן־לי המלך כיד־אלהי הטובה עלי׃	ח	8	and a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's park, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the castle which appertaineth to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into.' And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
ואבוא אל־פחוות עבר הנהר ואתנה להם את אגרות המלך וישלח עמי המלך שרי חיל ופרשים׃ פ	ט	9	Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent with me captains of the army and horsemen. {P}
וישמע סנבלט החרני וטוביה העבד העמני וירע להם רעה גדלה אשר־בא אדם לבקש טובה לבני ישראל׃	י	10	And when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, for that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
ואבוא אל־ירושלם ואהי־שם ימים שלשה׃	יא	11	So I came to Yerushalam, and was there three days.
ואקום ׀ לילה אני ואנשים ׀ מעט עמי ולא־הגדתי לאדם מה אלהי נתן אל־לבי לעשות לירושלם ובהמה אין עמי כי אם־הבהמה אשר אני רכב בה׃	יב	12	And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God put into my heart to do for Yerushalam; neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode upon.
ואצאה בשער־הגיא לילה ואל־פני עין התנין ואל־שער האשפת ואהי שבר בחומת ירושלם אשר־הם ׀ פרוצים המפרוצים ושעריה אכלו באש׃	יג	13	And I went out by night by the valley gate, even toward the dragon's well, and to the dung gate, and viewed the walls of Yerushalam, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.
ואעבר אל־שער העין ואל־ברכת המלך ואין־מקום לבהמה לעבר תחתי׃	יד	14	Then I went on to the fountain gate and to the king's pool; but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
ואהי עלה בנחל לילה ואהי שבר בחומה ואשוב ואבוא בשער הגיא ואשוב׃	יה	15	Then went I up in the night in the valley, and viewed the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned.
והסגנים לא ידעו אנה הלכתי ומה אני עשה וליהודים ולכהנים ולחרים ולסגנים וליתר עשה המלאכה עד־כן לא הגדתי׃	יו	16	And the rulers knew not whither I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work.
ואומר אלהם אתם ראים הרעה אשר אנחנו בה אשר ירושלם חרבה ושעריה נצתו באש לכו ונבנה את־חומת ירושלם ולא־נהיה עוד חרפה׃	יז	17	Then said I unto them: 'Ye see the evil case that we are in, how Yerushalam lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire; come and let us build up the wall of Yerushalam, that we be no more a reproach.'
ואגיד להם את־יד אלהי אשר־היא טובה עלי ואף־דברי המלך אשר אמר־לי ויאמרו נקום ובנינו ויחזקו ידיהם לטובה׃ פ	יח	18	And I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also of the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said: 'Let us rise up and build.' So they strengthened their hands for the good work. {P}
וישמע סנבלט החרני וטביה ׀ העבד העמוני וגשם הערבי וילעגו לנו ויבזו עלינו ויאמרו מה־הדבר הזה אשר אתם עשים העל המלך אתם מרדים׃	יט	19	But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said: 'What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?'
ואשיב אותם דבר ואומר להם אלהי השמים הוא יצליח לנו ואנחנו עבדיו נקום ובנינו ולכם אין־חלק וצדקה וזכרון בירושלם׃	כ	20	Then answered I them, and said unto them: 'The God of heaven, He will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build; but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Yerushalam.'

Chapter 3

ויקם אלישיב הכהן הגדול ואחיו הכהנים ויבנו את־שער הצאן המה קדשוהו ויעמידו דלתתיו ועד־מגדל המאה קדשוהו עד מגדל חננאל׃ ס	א	1	Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananel. {S}
ועל־ידו בנו אנשי ירחו ס ועל־ידו בנה זכור בן־אמרי׃ ס	ב	2	And next unto him builded the men of Jericho. {S} And next to them builded Zaccur the son of Imri. {S}

ויחזק על־ידו עזר בן־ישוע שר המצפה מדה שנית מנגד עלת הנשק המקצע׃ ס	יט	19	And next to him repaired Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, another portion, over against the ascent to the armoury at the Turning. {S}
אחריו החרה החזיק ברוך בן־זכי זבי מדה שנית מן־המקצוע עד־פתח בית אלישיב הכהן הגדול׃ ס	כ	20	After him Baruch the son of Zaccai earnestly repaired another portion, from the Turning unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest. {S}
אחריו החזיק מרמות בן־אוריה בן־הקוץ מדה שנית מפתח בית אלישיב ועד־תכלית בית אלישיב׃ ס	כא	21	After him repaired Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz another portion, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib. {S}
ואחריו החזיקו הכהנים אנשי הככר׃	כב	22	And after him repaired the priests, the men of the Plain.
אחריו החזיק בנימן וחשוב נגד ביתם ס אחריו החזיק עזריה בן־מעשיה בן־ענניה אצל ביתו׃ ס	כג	23	After them repaired Benjamin and Hasshub over against their house. {S} After them repaired Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah beside his own house. {S}
אחריו החזיק בנוי בן־חנדד מדה שנית מבית עזריה עד־המקצוע ועד־הפנה׃	כד	24	After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another portion, from the house of Azariah unto the Turning and unto the corner.
פלל בן־אוזי מנגד המקצוע והמגדל היוצא מבית המלך העליון אשר לחצר המטרה אחריו פדיה בן־פרעש׃ ס	כה	25	Palal the son of Uzai repaired over against the Turning, and the tower that standeth out from the upper house of the king, which is by the court of the guard. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh repaired.-- {S}
והנתינים היו ישבים בעפל עד נגד שער המים למזרח והמגדל היוצא׃ ס	כו	26	Now the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that standeth out.-- {S}
אחריו החזיקו התקעים מדה שנית מנגד המגדל הגדול היוצא ועד חומת העפל׃	כז	27	After him the Tekoites repaired another portion, over against the great tower that standeth out, and unto the wall of Ophel.
מעל ׀ שער הסוסים החזיקו הכהנים איש לנגד ביתו׃ ס	כח	28	Above the horse gate repaired the priests, every one over against his own house. {S}
אחריו החזיק צדוק בן־אמר נגד ביתו ס ואחריו החזיק שמעיה בן־שכניה שמר שער המזרח׃ ס	כט	29	After them repaired Zadok the son of Immer over against his own house. {S} And after him repaired Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the east gate. {S}
אַחֲרָ֨יו אחרי הֶחֱזִ֜יק חֲנַנְיָ֣ה בֶן־שֶׁלֶמְיָ֗ה וְחָנ֧וּן בֶּן־צָלָ֛ף הַשִּׁשִּׁ֖י מִדָּ֣ה שֵׁנִ֑י ס אַחֲרָ֣יו הֶחֱזִ֗יק מְשֻׁלָּם֙ בֶּן־בֶּ֣רֶכְיָ֔ה נֶ֖גֶד נִשְׁכָּתֽוֹ׃ ס	ל	30	After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another portion. {S} After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber. {S}
אַחֲרָ֣יו אחרי הֶחֱזִ֗יק מַלְכִּיָּה֙ בֶּן־הַצֹּ֣רְפִ֔י עַד־בֵּ֥ית הַנְּתִינִ֖ים וְהָרֹכְלִ֑ים נֶ֚גֶד שַׁ֣עַר הַמִּפְקָ֔ד וְעַ֖ד עֲלִיַּ֥ת הַפִּנָּֽה׃	לא	31	After him repaired Malchijah one of the goldsmiths unto the house of the Nethinim, and of the merchants, over against the gate of Hammiphkad, and to the upper chamber of the corner.
ובין עלית הפנה לשער הצאן החזיקו הצרפים והרכלים׃ פ	לב	32	And between the upper chamber of the corner and the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants. {P}
ויהי כאשר שמע סנבלט כי־אנחנו בונים את־החומה ויחר לו ויכעס הרבה וילעג על־היהודים׃	לג	33	But it came to pass that, when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
ויאמר ׀ לפני אחיו וחיל שמרון ויאמר מה היהודים האמללים עשים היעזבו להם היזבחו היכלו ביום היחיו את־האבנים מערמות העפר והמה שרופות׃	לד	34	And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said: 'What do these feeble Jews? will they restore at will? will they sacrifice? will they make an end this day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burned?'
וטוביה העמני אצלו ויאמר גם אשר־הם בונים אם־יעלה שועל ופרץ חומת אבניהם׃ פ	לה	35	Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said: 'Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall break down their stone wall.' {P}
שמע אלהינו כי־היינו בוזה והשב חרפתם אל־ראשם ותנם לבזה בארץ שביה׃	לו	36	Hear, O our God; for we are despised; and turn back their reproach upon their own head, and give them up to spoiling in a land of captivity;
ואל־תכס על־עונם וחטאתם מלפניך אל־תמחה כי הכעיסו לנגד הבונים׃	לז	37	and cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before Thee; for they have vexed Thee before the builders.
ונבנה את־החומה ותקשר כל־החומה עד־חציה ויהי לב לעם לעשות׃ פ	לח	38	So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto half the height thereof; for the people had a mind to work. {P}

Chapter 4

ויהי כאשר שמע סנבלט וטוביה והערבים והעמנים והאשדודים כי־עלתה ארוכה לחמות ירושלם כי־החלו הפרצים להסתם ויחר להם מאד׃	א	1	But it came to pass that, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the repairing of the walls of Yerushalam went forward, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth;
ויקשרו כלם יחדו לבוא להלחם בירושלם ולעשות לו תועה׃	ב	2	and they conspired all of them together to come and fight against Yerushalam, and to cause confusion therein.
ונתפלל אל־אלהינו ונעמיד משמר עליהם יומם ולילה מפניהם׃	ג	3	But we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
ויאמר יהודה כשל כח הסבל והעפר הרבה ואנחנו לא נוכל לבנות בחומה׃	ד	4	And Judah said: 'The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.'
ויאמרו צרינו לא ידעו ולא יראו עד אשר־נבוא אל־תוכם והרגנום והשבתנו את־המלאכה׃	ה	5	And our adversaries said: 'They shall not know, neither see, till we come into the midst of them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.'
ויהי כאשר־באו היהודים הישבים אצלם ויאמרו לנו עשר פעמים מכל־המקמות אשר־תשובו עלינו׃	ו	6	And it came to pass that, when the Jews that dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times: 'Ye must return unto us from all places.'

ויהי כאשר נשמע לסנבלט וטוביה ולגשם הערבי וליתר איבינו כי בניתי את־החומה ולא־נותר בה פרץ גם עד־העת ההיא דלתות לא־העמדתי בשערים׃	א	1	Now it came to pass, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah, and to Geshem the Arabian, and unto the rest of our enemies, that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein--though even unto that time I had not set up the doors in the gates--
וישלח סנבלט וגשם אלי לאמר לכה ונועדה יחדו בכפירים בבקעת אונו והמה חשבים לעשות לי רעה׃	ב	2	that Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying: 'Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.' But they thought to do me mischief.

ויאספו כל־העם כאיש אחד אל־הרחוב אשר לפני שער־המים ויאמרו לעזרא הספר להביא את־ספר תורת משה אשר־צוה יהוה את־ישראל׃	א	1	all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spoke unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the Torah of Moses, which Yehovah had commanded to Israel.

Chapter 9

וביום עשרים וארבעה לחדש הזה נאספו בני־ישראל בצום ובשקים ואדמה עליהם׃	א	1	Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth upon them.
ויבדלו זרע ישראל מכל בני נכר ויעמדו ויתודו על־חטאתיהם ועונות אבתיהם׃	ב	2	And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.

אף כי־עשו להם עגל מסכה ויאמרו זה אלהיך אשר העלך ממצרים ויעשו נאצות גדלות׃	יח	18	Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said: 'This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;

ותתן להם ממלכות ועממים ותחלקם לפאה ויירשו את־ארץ סיחון ואת־ארץ מלך חשבון ואת־ארץ עוג מלך־הבשן׃	כב	22	Moreover Thou gavest them kingdoms and peoples, which Thou didst allot quarter by quarter; so they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
ובניהם הרבית כככבי השמים ותביאם אל־הארץ אשר־אמרת לאבתיהם לבוא לרשת׃	כג	23	Their children also didst Thou multiply as the stars of heaven, and didst bring them into the land, concerning which Thou didst say to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.

ותמשך עליהם שנים רבות ותעד בם ברוחך ביד־נביאיך ולא האזינו ותתנם ביד עמי הארצת׃	ל	30	Yet many years didst Thou extend mercy unto them, and didst forewarn them by Thy spirit through Thy prophets; yet would they not give ear; therefore gavest Thou them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.
וברחמיך הרבים לא־עשיתם כלה ולא עזבתם כי אל־חנון ורחום אתה׃	לא	31	Nevertheless in Thy manifold mercies Thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for Thou art a gracious and merciful God.

Chapter 11

וישבו שרי־העם בירושלם ושאר העם הפילו גורלות להביא ׀ אחד מן־העשרה לשבת בירושלם עיר הקדש ותשע הידות בערים׃	א	1	And the princes of the people dwelt in Yerushalam; the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Yerushalam the holy city, and nine parts in the other cities.
ויברכו העם לכל האנשים המתנדבים לשבת בירושלם׃ פ	ב	2	And the people blessed all the men that willingly offered themselves to dwell in Yerushalam. {P}

(What is Read —What is Written) :

Qere and Ketiv, from the Aramaic qere or q're, קְרֵי‎ ("[what is] read") and ketiv, or ketib, kethib, kethibh, kethiv, כְּתִיב‎ ("[what is] written"), also known as "keri uchesiv" or "keri uchetiv," refers to a system for marking differences between what is written in the consonantal text of the Hebrew Bible, as preserved by scribal tradition, and what is read. In such situations, the Qere is the technical orthographic device used to indicate the pronunciation of the words in the Masoretic text of the Hebrew language scriptures (Tanakh), while the Ketiv indicates their written form, as inherited from tradition.

A. Qere and Ketiv are orthographic devices that were used by the Masoretes,
i.e., Jewish scribes from the 6-10th centuries.

Qere means, "what is read," and ketiv means, "what is written".

It is found in existing Masoretic manuscripts dating to the 9th and 10th centuries, CE.

There are several forms of Qere / Ketiv, including:
ordinary, vowel, omitted, added, euphemistic, split, and qere perpetuum.

The ketiv that is most relevant is the vowel qere. In this case, the consonants are unchanged,
but different vowel signs are added and only the qere, i.e., what is read, is vocalized. ...

I Challenge The Rabbinic QERE–KETIV System!

In January 2022, beginning with the "Accented" (Full Trop and Vowels), rendering I chose to repair defects in the html encodings which occurred with my mechanical conversion of the unicode multi-wide encoding from http://tanach.us. I also decided to rearrange the Qere–Ketiv "system" with what I consider was the Masoretic intent in the first place!

The New KETIV–qere Hebrew Rendering (ACCENTS)!

Thus, this current version uses the Ketiv, what is written, as the predominant rendering, while making the Qere, what the "rabbis" have commanded as Must Be Read instead, to be a minimalist secondary format (much as rabbis appear to have intended the Ketiv to be!).

One of the reasons I decided to take on this new rendering effort is that in my efforts to understand the nature of the rabbinic Qere–Ketiv system I have not truly found a satisfactory explanation of why the "Qere" should always take precedence over the "Ketiv" in reading the Tanakh.

In fact, as I understand it, rabbinic "scribes", in examining the actual Aleppo and Leningrad Codices, appear to have taken upon themselves to adding the consonant only Qere in the margins upon the original manuscripts, where, in their "infinite wisdom" they have presumed themselves to be the greater authority!

Moreover, as rabbinic sources seem to indicate that the "Ketiv" should never be uttered, I have found instances, such as in Exodus 21:8, where I believe the "Qere" is blatantly INCORRECT — and that the "Ketiv" should be the preferred "reading", as if the Masoretes actually knew what they were doing all along!

In my own regular reading (Stone Edition Tanakh, Koren Publications Tanakh), my preference has been to read the "Ketiv" (what is written) and pretty much minimize the "Qere"! This is not easy to do because the predominant Qere is rendered as if it is the normative form, and the Ketiv follows, typically within brackets, as if it is the offensive variant (Stone Edition Tanakh)! In the Koren Publications Tanakh, the "Ketiv" is what is rendered in the margin, while the "Qere" is found in the regular text! Obviously, normal reading will typically ignore what the Masoretes wrote, the "Ketiv"!

As of January, 2022, and going forward, I intend to render the rabbinic additions of Qere in their current KETIV–qere form found in the accented version. I consider this as to convey the intent of the Masoretes. However, I acknowledge that rabbis (talmudists) have expended much effort to obscure the written Torah as part of their regular practice; as they appear, to me, to view themselves collectively as אֱלֹהִ֔ים Elohim. That is, I believe that those talmudists (rabbis), consider themselves collectively to be God!!! They certainly demand that their edicts (tachanot) are followed as if they are divinely inspired law!

הָאָדֹ֥ן ׀ יְהוָֽה ha Adon Yehovah

The Hebrew Phrase הָאָדֹ֥ן ׀ יְהוָֽה Occurs In Only Two Places, In Exodus 23:17 and 34:23. In Those Cases, I Have Changed The Translation Wording From "Lord GOD" To "Lord GOD [ha Adon Yehovah]".

אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהֹוִֽה Adonai Yehovi

Typically Translated As "Lord GOD", It Is A Much Less Common Form Of The Divine Name, יְהֹוָה [Yehovah].

This Form אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהֹוִֽה Is, Nevertheless, Quite Important In Understanding Pronounciation For The Divine Name, Especially Since The Hebrew Form For It Has NOT Undergone The Intense Scrutiny Of rabbinic Censorship As Has "Yehovah". Accordingly, The Hebrew Text For This Form Of 'The Name' Typically HAS NOT BEEN ALTERED In Jewish Publications That Actually Keep The Vowel Pointers From The Masoretic Text!

In Converting "Lord GOD" to "Lord GOD [Adonai Yehovi]", I Counted A Total Of 284 Occurrences In The JPS 1917 Tanakh.
